How many times has this happened to you? You decide to lose weight. You build your
determination, grit your teeth, and bully your way through the first day, week and month.
You’re doing well, then all of a sudden, you start eating much more than you ever did before.

No matter how good your intentions are, or how much you tell yourself you won’t overeat,
an internal pressure builds until you grab for that bag of chips, those cookies, that
chocolate. You feel like a failure, a weak willed person, someone who will never succeed,
and you just don’t know what went wrong.

It could be your subconscious mind working against your conscious mind. Why would it do
that? We all know that keeping our body weight at healthy levels and eating healthy is good
for us…or do we really? Your subconscious may not know it at all.

The subconscious mind is the center of your habits, emotions, your permanent memory and
it’s very protective. Permanent memory is the record of everything that has happened to you
in your life. This permanent memory can be a major factor in your success or failure at
losing weight, or achieving any other goal, especially if strong emotions are involved. Here
is a brief scenario of how the permanent memory can cause your subconscious mind to work
against you.

Say that when you were a child, something happened to emotionally upset you. Someone
you look up to like your mom, dad, or older sibling says “We’ll get you some ice cream. That
should make you feel better.” This statement plants a seed in your mind that ice cream
makes you feel good. If the ice cream does make you feel better, that fact is stored in the
subconscious mind as something that works instantly and easily.

Then, whenever something happens to make you stressed, miserable, or emotional, the
subconscious mind remembers how good the ice cream made you feel and starts a powerful
craving. It doesn’t know that the ice cream, or the extra weight it causes, may be harmful to
you. Your subconscious is giving you that craving to try and help you feel better. It thinks it’
s protecting you and doesn’t know that it’s really working against you.

It is the same way for any habit.  The habit is working to meet a need. When people
feel that they don't have willpower it is simply because the conscious mind and the
subconscious mind are conflicting because they're meeting different needs. Nobody's mind
can withstand the type of war that happens when the subconscious and the conscious mind
are in conflict.

Hypnosis works directly on the subconscious mind to help you make the changes you want
to make in your life. Many times, with hypnosis, we can get to the root of the problem, hold
things up to the conscious mind, and change the way the subconscious mind perceives
things, for example, ice cream. Then the overwhelming emotional pressures that are
keeping us from successfully losing weight can be removed, and the conscious and
subconscious mind can work together to keep you healthy and happy.
