I have used many of the hypnosis downloads and CDs I offer for
happiness and abundance in a Mental Health inpatient setting to assist
clinically depressed and suicidal people in taking their first steps
towards achieving happiness. My upcoming e-book “Change Your
Mind, Change Your Life” contains the most successful programs,
exercises, and classes I have developed. The following is an excerpt
from “Change Your Mind, Change Your Life”.

Why do most people find it difficult to change their lives?  Why do so many
people repeat the past even though they say they want a better future? The
answer to these questions, once again, is to go back to the thoughts we
generate in our minds.  Most people focus their attention on what they don’t
want in life. They say “I don’t want to gain weight”, “I don’t want to be in
debt”, I don’t want to be depressed any more” “I don’t want to get sick”, etc.
When one focuses on what they don’t want, their mind tends to produce what
they don’t want because what the mind focuses on it tends to create. Anything
the mind focuses on or believes in it will make real through the frequencies and
energies it emits.

The mind focusing on what it doesn’t want will attract more of what it doesn’t
want into reality because such focus matches the energy and frequency of the
“don’t want” item. Here is an example to help clarify this principal. Say you
want to lose weight. You tell yourself, “If I stop eating cookies, I could lose a
few pounds so I don’t want to eat cookies any more.”  What happens?
Instantly your mind starts thinking about all different kinds of cookies; you
think of peanut butter, chocolate chip, oatmeal, etc. Maybe you even think
about cookies so much you go to the store to buy some to eat before you start
your diet. If that happens you can say that your mind, focusing on the thought
of cookies even though you might not want to eat them, brought the cookies
into your life. Your mind, focusing on the don’t want, shifted your thoughts,
and thereby your energy and frequencies of your thoughts, to making the
cookies a reality.

What happens if I tell you I don’t want you to think about polka dotted
elephants? I’ll bet you just had a thought about a polka dotted elephant even
though you might have never thought about one before. If we focus on what
we don’t want, it seems that our minds drop the “don’t” and give us the rest of
the thought. The more we think about what we don’t want, the more of what
we don’t want we receive.

Our society seems to program us to focus on what we don’t want.  We have
the “War on Drugs” campaign, the “War against Cancer” campaign and the
“War on Violence” campaign (how is that for a concept War on Violence?). No
wonder drug use in this country is up.  Every time we think about the war on
drugs, every time we see a commercial against drugs we think about using
drugs. The thought about using drugs focuses the mind on drugs and the
person who has experimented with drugs in the past might get a craving, or the
adolescent who has never tried drugs might be curious about what the big deal
is all about.
Thinking about what we don’t want is ok once in a while, because these things
let us know what we really don’t want in our lives. It is imperative to start
thinking about the polar opposite in our lives so that we can focus on what we
do want.  In other words, if we give brief attention to a thought saying to
ourselves, “Oh I don’t want that in my life” we need to shift our attention and
focus to what we do want.

Here are some examples:
Don’t want- I don’t want to catch a cold
Polar opposite- I am a very healthy person and I get healthier every day.
Don’t want- I don’t want to be late
Polar opposite- I get to where I’m going and arrive five minutes early

Why is it so important to think about what we do want in our lives? When we
think about what we do want, we usually feel good; we start focusing on what
it actually takes to get what we want into our lives.  Take the former example
of losing weight.  What if the person said to his or her self, “I think I will start
eating healthier.” What happens? The person might start thinking about apples,
carrots, celery, etc. They might not run to the store right away to fulfill a
craving for those things, but at least they aren’t thinking about cookies. Their
mind is focused on things that are healthy and they are much more likely to
start thinking about how good those things really do taste.

If I say to you “I want you to think about peace and relaxation” your mind
starts thinking about meditation, breathing exercises, or what ever it is that
helps you to relax. Maybe, if you haven’t tried any of these things before, you
will start to get curious and be likely to get a meditation or breathing CD. Your
mind might even start working to help you physically relax even if you didn’t
know your muscles were tense. In other words, just thinking about peace and
relaxation will lead to bringing more peace and relaxation into your life. It is
imperative to think about what you do want in your life when you decide to
make a change.
